Jennifer Love Hewitt’s spooky TV series “Ghost Whisperer” has been brought back from the dead – TV executives at ABC have given the show a lifeline. The long-running drama was axed last week as part of a sweep by executives at CBS.

But Hewitt’s co-star and ex-boyfriend Jamie Kennedy has revealed there is still “life” in the programme after ABC chiefs expressed interest in picking up “Ghost Whisperer” for its future schedule. He says, “They are talking about it, so that’s cool. We haven’t exactly gone into the light, we haven’t crossed over, but we’ve got some life.”
“Ghost Whisperer” premiered in 2005. Its Friday night partner “Medium” which is starring Patricia Arquette has been picked up for a sixth season. The show previously was axed by NBC.
It’s a bad day if you have three names and you’re a U.S. TV star – Jennifer Love Hewitt and Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ long-running shows have been canceled. Hewitt’s spooky drama “Ghost Whisperer” and Louis-Dreyfus’ comedy “The New Adventures of Old Christine” have been axed as part of a sweep by TV bosses at CBS.

Comedy “Gary Unmarried“, cop drama “Cold Case“, “Miami Medical“, “Accidentally on Purpose“, and “Numb3rs” have also been canceled by the network executives.
Jennifer Love Hewitt has played opposite David Conrad, Camryn Manheim, Jay Mohr, Jamie Kennedy, Tyler Patrick Jones, Aisha Tyler and Christoph Sanders in “Ghost Whisperer”. Meanwhile, Julia Louis-Dreyfus has starred alongside Clark Gregg, Hamish Linklater, Trevor Gagnon, Emily Rutherfurd, Tricia O’Kelley, Alex Kapp Horner and Wanda Sykes in “New Adventures of Old Christine”.

This Friday, CBS’s Ghost Whisperer airs its 100th episode, and next week the stars will go to work on their fifth season finale, to air in mid-May. The stars and producers came together Monday night in Hollywood to celebrate their milestone. I was there too – and left with a goodie bag of scoops.
“‘Explosive’ is the word I would like to use for our 100th episode,” previews star/producer Jennifer Love Hewitt, who also directed the installment. “There will be an unexpected death of someone you may not want to see die and this death puts everyone in jeopardy.”
This being Ghost Whisperer, you can expect this killed-off character (not a series regular) to return in some form.
The finale, titled “The Children’s Parade,” will wrap up the season-long Shadows storyline involving Melinda’s five-year-old son, Aidan. “The connection of Aidan, Melinda, the Shinies (who will turn out to be the crossed-over spirits of children here to protect Aidan and Melinda) and the Shadows will come to a climax,” teases executive producer Ian Sander, with fellow EP Kim Moses adding, “There’s going to be a lot of action from the dark side and you’re going to have a lot of answers to some mysteries about the intersection of the living and the dead.”
Series creator John Gray will direct the episode, which he describes as “one of the show’s scariest. It’s basically about a haunting at a hospital by the ghosts of kids from an abandoned polio ward in the early 1900′s. They go on a march every night.”
Love adds that her spooked-out character, “will realize just how little she knows about what her son knows – and that’s scary for her. Because if she can’t see it then she can’t save him from it.”
Guest star Margaret Cho will be back for two more episodes this season as a teacher of the occult who works alongside Eli. “She’s going to help solve some crimes,” says Sander.
“She’s so amazing; so dirty and I love it,” raves Love of Cho. “We have so much fun together.”
Also guest starring in an upcoming episode: The Shield actress Catherine Dent as a boozy ghost named Laura. “It was really fun playing a drunk,” says Catherine, “because I could show up to work looking like crap.”
Love helming the 100th turned out to be a real treat for the cast. Christoph Sanders, who plays Ned, says, “she has a knack of getting us wrapped about three hours earlier than other directors. No matter how hard the day is, she never has us work more than ten or twelve hours as opposed to sixteen.”
“She knows all my week spots, so she protects me,” adds Love’s co-star and real-life love, Jamie Kennedy. “She knows I’m not a great actor before 11 am, so she made sure to shoot everyone else first before coming to me.”

“If you’re a ‘Ghost Whisperer‘ fan, I have good news and bad news about this season.
I’ll start with the bad news first. An important character will die, which will take place on the show’s very special 100th episode on March 5th, directed by none other than Jennifer Love Hewitt herself. The episode will be special for another reason, too.
Yes, there’s a character, an important one, who is gonna die, in the 100th episode. Fans might want to start wondering who that is. I’m not sure they’ll be able to guess. And that takes us ahead to the home stretch. There’s gonna be a reckoning between Melinda, her son Aiden, Eli and Ned and the book that they’ve been reading and their battle against the shadows. There’s a very big climax we’re headed to at the end of the season and everything is at stake. It’s all gonna come down to the lives of all our key characters being on the line – especially Melinda and Aiden.”
On this week’s all-new episode of The Ghost Whisperer, Ned’s Occult Anthropology Professor is stalked by a secret admirer.
Naturally, because this is The Ghost Whisperer, the stalker in question is deceased. What will it take to solve the mystery? Melinda and a Ouija board.
Comedian Margaret Cho guest stars as the trouble professor. Get an early look at her on the CBS drama below:
